Vincent Van Gogh Shoes

The painting “Almond Blossom” was a gift for Vincent’s brother Theo and his wife. Cousin Vincent Willem was just born and more beautiful to give than his favorite subject of the moment: blossoming trees against a blue sky. Appropriate too, because for Vincent, this image represented new budding life and hope.

As we told you, we name him after you and I wish he would be as tenacious and as brave as you are. – Theo van Gogh, January 31, 1890

You are walking on the blue sky

“For above the parental bed”; because that’s where the masterpiece takes his little cousin into Vincent’s view of the world. It is a special painting in every way. Vincent thought it was his best work from that period. Painted in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with Vincent’s unprecedented peace and attention to detail.

Une promenade magnifique

Vincent would not find that peace after this painting. His mental health deteriorates rapidly. “Almond Blossom” was the first and last of its kind. Vincent van Gogh died on July 29, 1890.

I shake your hand firmly. I made, on my own, a magnificent walk in the vineyard today. Yours Forever – Vincent van Gogh, September 16, 1888

Design by Tomas

Throughout his life, Tomas was inspired by the impressive work of Vincent van Gogh. His father was very much driven by Vincent’s work and drew and painted in the atmosphere of Van Gogh. In daily work, Tomas Concept & Creation is involved in the creative elaboration of various projects for the Van Gogh Sites Foundation and Van Gogh Brabant. This work inspired Tomas to develop a unique pair of Van Gogh shoes. The Van Gogh shoes were created with knowledge of shoe production (De Langstraat) and in close collaboration with Van Drunen Schoenfabriek. Frank van den Eijnden, director Van Gogh Brabant (VisitBrabant) presented the shoes for the first time during “The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show” (ITB2017) in Berlin.

DISCIPLINES

Everything starts with an idea. This is also the case with the development of the Van Gogh Shoes. Walk in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh through the Brabant countryside. That thought was the reason to actually be able to do that on our own Van Gogh shoes, produced in our beautiful Brabant. The cradle of the shoe industry. The idea was born and was designed on Vincent’s beautiful almond blossom and the artisan qualities of Van Drunen Schoenfabriek.
The design of the shoes includes the application of Vincent’s work to the basic shape of the Gijs shoe by Van Drunen Schoenfabriek. The design has been applied, along with a whole package of designed elements such as the shoe box, website, brochures, displays and in-store promotional material.
The idea cannot exist without the qualities of the partners involved. Van Drunen Schoenfabriek has been a family business for many years. She picked up the idea flawlessly and together we worked on a perfect model. The Van Gogh Heritage Foundation with the consumer label ‘Van Gogh Brabant’ supported the entire process by linking knowledge and network. Together we enjoyed the realization of this project with a huge worldwide spin-off.
